Nathan Asher — Photos You Can Feel.

I am a husband, father, teacher, man of faith, and storyteller. Before the galleries and collectors’ walls, I was a public housing and foster kid in Melbourne. After losing my mother at sixteen to alcoholism, I fell into addiction and homelessness for the first time. Trapped in a cycle of poverty, I always knew there was more to my story, though I didn’t know where it was. After another season of homelessness, a turning point came on a hail-mary move to Asia, where I risked it all, and where Stories from the East was born.

A Life Behind the Lens

My first camera — a gift from a friend — became a daily journal that never left my side. I carried it everywhere, shooting through everything. In my photographs, I found my own story reflected in the narratives, emotions, people, and places I captured. The chapters of my own life gave me eyes to see in others, and my photographs began to carry meaning not just for me, but for those who viewed them too.

Stories From the East

More than décor, my work speaks to the heart and journey of our most meaningful moments. From hutongs to temples, markets to monks — Stories from the East is a collection of living stories: trial and resistance, faith and joy, family and journey. They are stories that connect with yours in ways no other can. If one speaks to you, it was meant for you.

Let’s Connect

Whether you’re beginning or building a collection, looking for the perfect artwork, or simply curious about Stories from the East – this is the most personal way to connect with the art.
